Happy feast of the Guardian Angels!

Laura DeMaria

It is the feast of our guardian angels! Isn’t that incredible? Imagine your magnificent guardian angel with you every day, at the moment you wake up, to the time you go to bed, and through the night. It is a good idea to speak to your guardian angel frequently. Ask for your angel’s help in any matter, big or small, major or inconsequential. I talk to my guardian angel if I am traveling, if I am nervous about something, if I have a meeting I want to go smoothly or a conversation that needs to be held…pretty much, any time.

Did you know if you are having a difficult time with someone, you can talk to their guardian angel? You can also ask your guardian angel to speak to theirs. And of course, if you are sick and cannot go to Mass, you can send your guardian angel on your behalf. For real. Let us thank God for the gift of our guardian angels!

I’ve had two recent radio appearances to share. The first was about loneliness. AEI released a survey showing that church affiliation provides a sense of belonging in our increasingly lonely and isolated world. I spoke with John and the gang about it, which you can listen to here.

Next, I joined Morning Air to talk about: spiritual leadership. I know everyone throws around the word “leadership,” especially if you’re on LinkedIn, and it’s basically meaningless at this point. What I mean is that in every family, someone has to be the spiritual leader. Someone has to be the one to say “we’re going to church” or “we’re praying the rosary together.” More importantly, this requires us to not be hypocrites in our words and actions. Because kids see it all! And they’re not dumb. So if you’re trying to teach them to love their neighbors as the gospel says, and you cuss out everyone in traffic, well, you’re modeling being a hypocrite rather than a Catholic and that’s definitely not leadership.

You can listen to that one here. We had a few callers, which was also great.

I’ll be back on October 10. What will be the topic? Who knows!

God bless!

Catching up on radio appearances

Laura DeMaria

Readers and listeners, I have had a few appearances on Relevant Radio the past couple months, and in case you missed it, I’d love for you to get caught up! They are:

Why Catholics Should Vote

St. Vincent dePaul during Relevant Radio’s pledge drive

Our Lady of La Leche

I will next join John and the gang next Thursday, September 12. You can listen as always on the livestream, the Relevant Radio app, or find you station.

I have put writing on hold for a bit as I focus on this new journey as a mother which is of course time-and-energy consuming. So, my posts as of late have just been recaps of my time spent on radio. The deeper written spiritual analysis and insight will return - soon! Or, soon-ish, anyway. Please pray for me, as I pray for you! May your fall be off to a beautiful start.

Audio of how to thrive in Ordinary Time

Laura DeMaria

It’s July and we are thoroughly in ordinary time! Last month I joined the Morning Air show to discuss just that. Listen to the audio here.

How do you thrive during ordinary time? Here’s some ideas:

  1. Be grateful. Come to your prayer time with an attitude of gratitude. It is hard to be bored or dissatisfied if you are approaching ordinary time with a spirit of gratitude to God for what He has given you.

  2. Take time to learn about the saints. There are plenty of feast days and celebrations during ordinary time, even if there is not a full on liturgical season to celebrate. Find the saint on your birthday, your kids' birthday, or some other significant day - or just as they come up on the calendar -  learn about them, and celebrate.

  3. Be an evangelist. Every day of the year is "ordinary time" for those outside the faith. Imagine what they are missing! Share the beauty and truth of the faith outside of the known Christmas and Easter season. Bring someone to adoration or Mass.

  4. Pray more. During ordinary time, you can take your pick of devotions: a consecration to St. Joseph or Mary, a retreat, novenas. Discern where God could be calling you closer to him through a different type of prayer than what you participate in during non-ordinary time.

I will be back on the show next Thursday the 18th at 8:15 am eastern. Topic to come, though I am wondering if it is a good time to discuss why Catholics need to vote…

Wishing you a blessed summer and feast of Saint Augustine Zhao Rong and Companions!
