Audio of how to thrive in Ordinary Time

Laura DeMaria

It’s July and we are thoroughly in ordinary time! Last month I joined the Morning Air show to discuss just that. Listen to the audio here.

How do you thrive during ordinary time? Here’s some ideas:

  1. Be grateful. Come to your prayer time with an attitude of gratitude. It is hard to be bored or dissatisfied if you are approaching ordinary time with a spirit of gratitude to God for what He has given you.

  2. Take time to learn about the saints. There are plenty of feast days and celebrations during ordinary time, even if there is not a full on liturgical season to celebrate. Find the saint on your birthday, your kids' birthday, or some other significant day - or just as they come up on the calendar -  learn about them, and celebrate.

  3. Be an evangelist. Every day of the year is "ordinary time" for those outside the faith. Imagine what they are missing! Share the beauty and truth of the faith outside of the known Christmas and Easter season. Bring someone to adoration or Mass.

  4. Pray more. During ordinary time, you can take your pick of devotions: a consecration to St. Joseph or Mary, a retreat, novenas. Discern where God could be calling you closer to him through a different type of prayer than what you participate in during non-ordinary time.

I will be back on the show next Thursday the 18th at 8:15 am eastern. Topic to come, though I am wondering if it is a good time to discuss why Catholics need to vote…

Wishing you a blessed summer and feast of Saint Augustine Zhao Rong and Companions!

Thriving during Ordinary Time

Laura DeMaria

Friends, I shall be back on Morning Air tomorrow morning to discuss ways to thrive during Ordinary Time. Why the need to consciously thrive? Well, ordinary time isn’t as, you know, exciting as a special liturgical season like Easter or Advent. So we need to re-orient ourselves to remember that we are called to holiness in the day-to-day details of our ordinary lives, and actively living into ordinary time in the liturgical calendar is a good way to do that. We will be discussing gratitude, learning about the saints, evangelization, and prayer during ordinary time.

Catch me at 8:15 am eastern tomorrow online here, in the app, or on your local station.

Thanks for listening!

Audio of my interview on new motherhood now available

Laura DeMaria

It was a pleasure to return to Morning Air to discuss my experience as a new mother. Long story short: it’s wonderful!

I mentioned the parable of the grain of wheat that falls to the ground and dies, in order to become something better - that is what motherhood makes me think of. You leave your “old” self behind, to live a vocation that God calls you to, and God gives you the grace and strength to do it.

You can listen here, starting around minute 17.

Come back here soon to see my latest article and next date/time on Morning Air. I hope you are having a wonderful summer!
